Event: OMT - One Million Trees Project (Ecosystem Restoration)

Location: Sungei Buloh Wetland Nature reserve, Kranji Coastal Nature Park, Singapore

Our Global Green Ambassador, Peggy, volunteered in the Ecosystem Restoration Project under the OMT (OneMillionTrees) movement which is coordinated by the University of Singapore Department of Biological Sciences along with the National Parks Board aiming to restore nature back into the city through planting of one million more trees over the next 10 years.

Peggy has had a rewarding experience joining 23 other volunteers to take part in this ground level habitat enhancement project with the mission to help in restoring the ecosystem to enforce forest reforestation.

Till date this project has had over 18 months of afforestation work conducted with over 300 volunteers assisting the cause.

While Peggy was volunteering at the Forest Restoration Project for Kranji Coastal Nature Park they were able to plant 60 more trees to help balance the nitrogen composition in the soil to improve soil nutrient levels after the coastal erosion. This action also covered the wetlands at Kranji Coastal Nature Park which makes up the Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve.

Duties included;

•         Soil preparation

•        Tree-planting

•        Sapling protection to restore and enhance the habitat

Global warming is all around us and climate change is intensifying rapidly, it is important that we all collectively take action NOW!

Get involved and lets all do our part!
